Vision:

GEAR UP at MSAD 20 strives to assist students and families from diverse backgrounds starting in grade seven to aspire to, prepare for, enroll in, and successfully complete a postsecondary education for a successful career and life.

Mission:

Together, we will work effectively, in conjunction with our community, to prepare students for successful futures. We will work to expose students to a wide realm of real life, real world experiences in order to increase career awareness. As a team, we will help ensure students and their families will be supported in increasing aspirations, as well as identifying strengths and seeking avenues to further explore interests and foster personal growth.

The goal of GEAR UP Maine is to prepare students for postsecondary education by increasing:

  • Academic performance and preparation for postsecondary education;
  • The rate of high school graduation; and,
  • Students’ and parents’ knowledge of postsecondary education options, preparation and financing.

MSAD 20 GEAR UP Program:

GEAR UP-2-Learn After School Tutoring: FREE after school academic tutoring for all students grades 6-12. Offered every Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday from 2:45-4:00pm. Emotional Regulation Groups: An 8-week Emotional Regulation program for targeted 7th & 8th grade students. These groups will utilize cognitive behavior therapy concepts along with experiential activities in order to support the children in identifying and understanding their emotions, thoughts and behaviors. These groups are facilitated by Cory Tilley of the Northern Lighthouse, a non-profit organization providing a wide variety of mental health services. FMI: contact Kim Dorsey at kdorsey@msad20.org.
